1. Information We Collect

When you use RodTree, we collect the following information:

• Account information: name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash) when you register.
• Family tree content: names, dates of birth and death, places, gender, relationships, biographical notes, and photos that you add to your trees. This content belongs to you.
• Photos and media: images you upload as part of your family tree are stored on our servers and resized for display. You can delete any photo at any time.
• Settings and preferences: language (English/Russian), display preferences, sharing and editor settings.
• Payment data: if you purchase Lifetime Pro or an add-on pack, we store transaction details (order id, plan/add-on purchased, masked card information such as the last 4 digits, status). Full card numbers are processed by WayForPay and are never stored on our servers.
• Mobile push token (optional): if you install the RodTree mobile app and grant notification permission, we store the device push token to deliver notifications. You can disable this in your device settings at any time.
• Google account identifier (optional): if you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account id, email address, and display name solely to create or link your RodTree account.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Service
• To authenticate your identity and manage your account
• To store, display, and synchronize your family trees across your devices
• To send account-related emails (verification, password reset, purchase receipts)
• To process one-time payments for Lifetime Pro and optional add-on packs
• To improve the Service and user experience
• To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents

3. Data Sharing

We share your data with third-party services only as necessary to provide the Service:

• Google Sign-In: optional authentication. Your use of Google Sign-In is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Cloudflare Turnstile: CAPTCHA verification for bot protection during registration and password reset.
• SMTP email delivery: account-related and transactional emails are delivered via standard SMTP. The recipient address is the email you registered with.
• WayForPay: payment processing for Lifetime Pro and add-on packs on the web. Card data is handled directly by WayForPay and is not stored on our servers.
• Apple App Store / Google Play (mobile only): in-app purchases on mobile are processed by the platform store. Receipts are validated server-side; we do not receive your payment card details.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not show advertising and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on secure servers. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. On mobile, a local SQLite database caches your trees for offline use; this data lives only on your device. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Guest Mode

You can use the RodTree mobile app without an account. In guest mode, your family tree is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers. If you later create an account, you can choose to upload your local tree to sync it.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data and family-tree content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual people, photos, or whole trees at any time. You can delete your account and all associated server-side data by contacting us at [email protected]. We will permanently delete your server-side data within 30 days of a verified deletion request.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

We use the following cookies and browser storage:

• Authentication cookies: essential cookies for session management (required for the Service to work).
• Locale cookie: stores your language preference (English / Russian).
• Cloudflare cookies: set by Cloudflare Turnstile for CAPTCHA verification and bot protection.

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Export your family tree (PDF, PNG, GEDCOM — available on Lifetime Pro)
• Withdraw consent for data processing

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it promptly. RodTree allows you to add deceased and living relatives to a tree, including children — that information is provided by you, not collected from the child directly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
